This session was an interesting topic because people don’t really think about being judgemental. So I really had to think about some of the issues being discussed. As a coach, one can’t be judgemental and it is important to be able to recognize when experiencing judgemental feelings towards the client.
We are continuously being judgemental towards our colleagues; family members; parents etc… and we need to be mindful of our feelings. Being judgemental on the most part is viewed as negative behaviour but it can be positive. One can be take the negative judgemental feelings and turn it into a positive.
If while I am coaching I experience negative judgemental feelings towards my client, I immediately clear my mind by reminding myself that “a coach is not in the business of judging the client” and I direct my questions to the client that will help clarify the true intentions of the client.
