I remember when I was growing up that our family had a very strong value around actively contributing to our community through community services. I remember as a teenager sometimes not liking that we had to do this – you know I was young and just wanted to be wild and free. What I also know though, is that I remember when I was actively doing a service for the community, I loved it. I met people, it felt awesome and I got to learn so much.
Now later in life I reflect back on those times and I remember them fondly. I have throughout my life observed how we have shifted away from working in our community and that it saddens me to see how we value individualistic aims and goals only and we forget how much we need each other.
The most amazing element of providing community service is that we go away receiving the most from the experience. If you enter the experience thinking you are the hero helping poor unfortunate people out then you are sadly missing the point. However when you reach out to another person the very nature of connecting is what fulfils us as people.
Today people are offering the service of coaching to communities.
Whether it be to young people in a youth centre, to families, or to any community group including businesses, coaching is being carried out to enrich the community. It is such an awesome feeling to see people find their passion and glow. But most of all it is the feeling of connecting with others and the privilege of people allowing you to connect with them. Everyone wants to connect – everyone wants to feel a part of something greater than themselves. Being a coach allows you to receive many gifts from others.
